Art Director

The Chopra Center for Wellbeing, located in beautiful Carlsbad, CA is the leading source for meditation, yoga, and the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda. Seekers from around the world come to experience our variety of programs in stress release, mind-body medicine, emotional healing, personal development and life transformation. Along with our programs, we have a healthy roster of services, products, and digital courses and teacher certifications to promote the spiritual journey. The Digital Art Director is responsible for the conceptualization and implementation of design solutions that meet marketing strategies and elevate our company brand aesthetic. The ideal candidate has a core understanding of our digital customers, and brings digital experiences to life across various devices, products, and projects. He/she is also a leader and a mentor to a team of designers, fostering an environment of teamwork, collaboration, communication, growth, and high-quality design aesthetic.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Web Design
  • Develop, refine, and implement the future design direction of the brand to be forward thinking, focused on conversion, and customer centric.
  • He/she is responsible for the creation of digital layouts and graphics, from concept to completion, in a wide range of applications including: site landing pages, site assets, digital campaigns, email campaigns, digital ads, and some print/tradeshow work.
  • He/she understands mobile-first design, the limitations of designing for a responsive site, CRO, and is able to creatively and proactively present design solutions that work best in this environment. 
  • Manage the team to create and implement web ready artwork for web refreshes, campaigns, new page templates, email, and other digital content.
  • Lead in the creation of graphic look and feel for all digital media channels. Guiding designers and development team to execute projects based on the creative direction and timeline.
  • Filter all design solutions through the lens of the Chopra Center brand.
  1. Project Management
  • Participate in project planning, and partner with Sr. Marketing Director, Director of Digital Media, and Marketing Manager to coordinate calendars in order to deliver accurate and on-brand work by the required deadlines.
  • Maintain comprehensive history of layout revisions and feedback while communicating all outstanding items needed from the team.
  • Present progress and final layouts for approval to Sr. Director of Marketing and business unit representative. Talk through design direction and adjustments made based on available assets.
  • Work closely with tech team, development team, marketing team, and business units to implement business critical changes in a swift and timely manner.
  1. Team Management
  • Lead and manage a team of designers to execute projects including site content, landing pages, email, banner ads, social graphics, web imagery, and some print/tradeshow materials.
  • Facilitate goal setting, performance reviews, touch bases, and training for direct reports.
  • Proactively communicate with marketing team and company representatives to keep all projects on schedule.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors' Degree in Design, User Experience, Web Development, or equal combination of experience and education
  • 1-2 years working experience as an Art Director with similar scope of responsibilities
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience managing a team
  • Experience making presentations to executives and all levels of employees

Technical Skills and Experience:

  • Must be highly proficient with current versions of Adobe Creative Suite and familiar with a wide range of other design, web, and multimedia software and applications
  • Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, storyboards, user flows, etc.
  • Ability to plan timelines, manage multiple projects, and delegate responsibilities to a team are essential
  • User Interface Design user analysis, information architecture, usability evaluation and testing, graphical interface design
  • Best practices for creating and optimizing web graphics
  • Advanced understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, web standards and best practices and their impact on creative and design
